-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Permanent Drive Letters

Terry,

Interesting solution. Some questions though...

Does this work for bith hard drives and flash
drives?

If the drive is unplugged from the top USB port
and then next time is
plugged into the lower USB port will that affect
the recognition and
mounting to the folder? (or Front/back,
Left/right, you get the idea)

Does the mounting process write mounting
information to the drive? If I do
the forbidden DEL *.* will it need to be
re-mounted?

Can different partitions on the drive be mounted
to different folders?

If it is mounted to a folder on one computer, is
it mounted to a folder on
every computer it is plugged into?

If I use it to transfer data to a different drive
will it plug in and be
recognized as a drive or will it want to be
mounted there also? Will it look
for the folder?

Once mounted, can a drive be UNmounted? Is
UNmounting ever necessary or
recommended?

Can it be mounted to more than one computer at a
time?

I guess the best question to ask to answer all of
these questions would
be...

What is the underlying theory of operation for
mounting a drive?

Thanks for answers to any of these questions.
I'm considering adding some
external drives to help with managing the 6
computers that I take care of
in our extended family.
