-=PCTechTalk=- Re: -=PCTechTalk=-connecting outlook contact files with 2 PCs

Gaynel,
I personally don't use Outlook, preferring to use Outlook Express for my
email, so there's no way for me to test this to be sure this will work. If
it doesn't work (for whatever reason), please forgive me.

Outlook keeps all of its email messages together in one place. More
specifically, all of your messages are contained in a single .PST file on
your hard drive (as opposed to OE's use of DBX files). The normal .PST
location will most likely be "C:\Documents and
Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook" or "C:\Documents and
Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook"
(where [username] is your own Windows login username). I'm sure someone
will quickly correct this if it's actually somewhere else.       ;O}

However, you need to really be sure you're taking this connection in the
right direction. If you use your laptop more than your desktop, you're
going about this the right way. However, if you use the desktop system
more, you'll want to keep the shared copy of Outlook.pst on the desktop's
hard drive and steer the laptop to use that one. Also, be aware that
opening up the one without the file and then trying to open up Outlook will
have some sort of negative effect. Most likely, it will give an error that
the store file could not be found and either offer to create a new one
(which will kill the connection you're trying to make here) or simply refuse
to run.

UPDATE:
I started this reply two days ago and have seen additional info
regarding your request. I do realize this info is dated (at least as far as
this thread goes), but it's still important enough for me to submit for your
consideration.

Peace,
GMan
