All these files are located in the main C:\ root directory:
NTDETECT.COM
NTLDR
BOOT.INI
These files, I'm not 100% sure, but they should most likely also be in =
the C:\ root directory.
BOOTSECT.DOS
NTBOOTDD.SYS

Hi All,
I am trying to create a Boot Diskette for XP Pro. Microsoft says I need =
3 to
5 files on such disk. When searching for Boot.ini I get two choices:
Boot.ini C:\Windows\pss or
Boot.ini C:\Program Files\PowerQuest\Partition Magic
Which is the proper one for the Boot Diskette or what do I search for to =
get
the proper file?
Rocky de Dragon
Too better explain. I was referred to http:\www.\michna.com/kb/index.htm =
for
Windows Problems. It looked to me like the XP Boot Diskette was =
something I
needed. The instructions can be found after the third headline:
Windows Problem Solver;
General;
Windows XP;
Forth Item down, How to make a Boot Diskette
"Or do you mean a Boot Diskette, from which you can boot the computer if
anything goes wrong with the boot files? For that you have to format a
diskette from Windows NT, 2000, or XP (it doesn't work from the lesser
versions of Windows), then copy the following 3 to 5 files from the root
folder to the diskette:
NTDETECT.COM
NTLDR
BOOT.INI This is the file I am finding hard to find. (Which One to =
use)
BOOTSECT.DOS (if present)
NTBOOTDD.SYS (if present)
Some of these files have the hidden or system attributes, so you may not
always see them. These attributes are not required though. You can =
remove
them temporarily (using ATTRIB or Explorer) and you don't need them on =
the
diskette.
Then try to boot from that diskette. If the computer boots as usual, the
boot diskette is OK."
