Well naturally if you never use it....then you wouldn't use it. I DO use it 
for reading mail from someone I know, I don't like just double clicking for 
a couple of reasons. It makes it too big and with my bifocals I have to tip 
my head back too far because my screen is really up too high for me. And the 
other reason is that I have neck and shoulder problems for which I had to 
have surgery for. If I click and click and double click all day, then it's a 
true pain in the neck. A real one.

Why wouldn't I just leave it on? I don't like leaving it on so that the next 
time I read my mail it isn't previewed unless I want it that way.

It certainly isn't compulsory to use it, my answer was for someone who might 
want a different way of using the Preview. It works for me.

wondering--why would one want to keep preview pane  on the tool bar so you
can toggle it off if it's never on in the first place????  ?..does not
