-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Odd Wireless Problem

Found the stinking problem and it was obvious. I used the wrong key on the
WEP encryption. Dagnabbit.

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Odd Wireless Problem

Got a linsys wireless router that is working just fine for two laptops and
two tivo units. It is set not to broadcast SSID, and is WEP enabled and set
to only allow access to the MACs listed in the wireless access list.

So I bring in a third laptop. I add it to the mac list, give it the wep key
and it connects. You look on the router and it has a valid class c IP
192.168.1.122. That being said you go to the laptop you can't connect. So
you go to ipconfig and you've got a class b IP address, no gateway, no dns
servers. Can't release, can't renew. Do a static assignment to a valid
class C for the router and disassociate the previous mentioned 122 address
still doesn't work.

I will admit I haven't tried disabling wep or updating the drivers yet.
What I wanted to know is if anyone has any other ideas. This laptop worked
fine on a non-wep enabled network yesterday (not mine, but one that I set up
at the request of a client). I bought this laptop from them and reinstalled
the OS etc. it's just the blasted wireless that isn't working.
