1.  I decided to proceed and do a "recovery" from the disc just to see 
if it truly returned the entire drive to its original state or left 
the second partition in place.  I got to the point where it I thought 
it was not recognizing the second partition (it listed only drive C, 
not D) and clicked to proceed anyway since it couldn't hurt anything. 
Low and Behold! it offered both C and D to install to.  I just 
finished installing to D:.

I will go look for slipstreaming from a recovery disk later today.  Or 
maybe tomorrow.  :-))
