Judith,
This will require a little registry editing.
Backup and then delete the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\ProofingTools\1.0\Override\en-US
Reboot the system afterwards. The key will be rebuilt the next time you
start Word, so fire up Word before checking your email or using any other
app that relies on the spell checker.
