Response to your suggestions:
I don't think that there is more than one program involved as I
am trying to dial up my connection. I am always using the
same icon to do the dialing and making the connection to my
ISP.
The volume control is also always at a level above very minimal
and I see no way it could be changed by merely dialing.
It was late and I was getting lazy when i referred to the "obvious."
What I meant was checking the control panel - modem - properties
settings and the volume controls.
Comments to your Side note:
I don't want to appear as if I am stubborn or a smart a$$ or whatever
but I am comfortable with my W98 system. I am frequently told that
I should watch my diet and not eat so many things that are not good
for me i.e., calories, cholestrol, and fats, etc. I know that that is
good
advice but I don't follow those suggestions, either.
I have no need or desire to buy a new car when the new models come
out even though the new ones are superior in terms of styling, gas
mileage, safety, etc. and I feel the same way about the need for a
new PC
I have noticed a few newer programs that say they are no longer
compatible with W98 but I have not needed any of them. I am not
worried about safety issues with W98 as it has never been a
problem in the past 10 years or so.
Maybe I am stubborn!!!!! :^)
I am somewhat considering - instead of upgrading Windows - to
jump on the Mac bandwagon. That is another reason that I am
not seriously considering an upgrade of a Windows machine.
Two of my kids have switched to Mac's and it looks tempting to
be so troublefree. (Especially now that the new Macs can easily
run Windows software.)
Thanks for your suggestions.
