If you're running XP or Vista, absolutely.  If your system is designed for 
dual-channel RAM and you now have a matched pair of 512MB sticks, adding a 
pair of 1GB sticks with the same rating should increase your abilities 
noticeably.  Run Disk Cleanup just before installing them, though.  It'll 
remove some of the crud that can get in the way of programs running and is 
one of the things I do before ever installing RAM.
