Rose,
The more I think about this situation, the more I'm thinking about the
original directions you followed. Try following them again, but when you
get to the part where he's at the prompt, have him type in the stuff
following this paraghaph. I want to see if the CD drive letter has changed.
I am suspecting this because I doubt he has 9 volumes ahead of the CD drive
(C:, D:, E:, F:, etc.). You never stated whether this was an OEM or
homebuilt machine, so have him go through these until he receives an output
that includes a folder called i386 (I'm hoping the recovery CD has it in its
root). When he finds the right letter, stop following them and use that
letter to complete the original instructions. Note the colon after each
drive letter and press Enter at the end of each line. FYI, CD tells the
console to Change Directories while DIR requests a directory listing from
the active drive.
CD C:
DIR
CD D:
DIR
CD E:
DIR
CD F:
DIR
CD G:
DIR
CD H:
DIR
CD I:
DIR
CD J:
DIR
CD K:
DIR
If none of these show a drive with a i386 folder, let me know the last
letter tried that produced anything other than an error message. And don't
worry about any error messages he gets. They're harmless at this point.
Just enter an "A" for "abort", or whatever it says to enter for that option.
:O)
Peace,
GMan
