Sure, if you've never done anything like it before, installing Apache 
can be something of an uphill struggle. All I can say to that is; 
download and read the manual, the process is very well laid out. 
Alternatively, there's a good "installing Apache for Windows" 
tutorial here:

I can tell you that when it IS set-up, it's very easy to use. You'll 
be able to stop and start the server from an icon in your system tray 
- very handy.

As for IIS, I've never used it, so I can't comment. By all means, try 
it and find out for yourself.

Doubtful. The two should never "meet". Your personal web server will 
just be for scripts on your hard drive, and your hosting company's 
server will stick to the website.

I imagine you'll be able to do that through Control Panel's 
"Add/Remove Programs". Probably via the Windows Setup tab.
