-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Missing file can't boot up

Cindy,
Most likely, Windows is just having a problem with a single, corrupted
file that it needs to boot up completely. Your original post didn't provide
me with a name for the specific missing file (what you included is perhaps a
folder name), so I'm unable to target my reply accordingly. Still, I don't
see this as something that will eat everything on your hard drive unless you
prematurely panic and reformat the drive out of frustration (which I would
almost understand). Bottom line, we'll probably need that Windows install
CD to get it back up & running. Since you're not suffering from withdraw,
let's wait until you get some stuff unpacked and find that CD. Once you
find it, try firing up the computer again and write down everything in the
error message exactly as it appears.

Your serial number MAY be written on a sticker that the manufacturer
placed on your computer case somewhere. I've seen them on either the top,
side and back of different models. It follows the format of
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX where X can mean any number or letter.

As far as using your laptop install CD, it would only work if it was an
actual Windows install CD and the same exact type as the one used to install
Windows onto the main system (either OEM or Retail) and not a recovery disk.
You would also STILL need the serial number for the downed system since you
cannot use the same serial number from the laptop.

Peace,
GMan
