I wish it was that easy, but you can only put it in a .bat file if the programs support switches to run automatically. Otherwise putting the antispyware program in a .bat file will only just bring up the window and wait for you to click update and even start. There is hope however. You can use AutoIt3 to make a script that will run programs and even click on the appropriate buttons. AutoIt3 started out as a scripting language (like .bat files), but has added many features over the years. You can even create a GUI interface (meaning windows) that have buttons, checkboxes, grids, and take user input from textboxes. I can help you with this as I have created many programs with it. My pride and joy is a program that runs IE, goes to a special website, logs on, enters info into the forms, then saves data from the info page to a text file (in comma delimited form). It also has a button on it that can import the text file into Excel and automatically sort the columns I select. The sorting feature doesn't work with Excel 2000 and earlier though. AutoIt3 is a free download at http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/downloads.shtml Ed -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dan Chisolm Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2009 10:24 PM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Maintenance Routine Inquiry I have three antispyware and an antivirus software installed. Is there someone who can provide me with a short tutorial on how to create .bat files, which would update the programs and execute them. I know that I can use WinXP Scheduled Tasks; however, I don't think that would do the update before running the program. I'd like for them to run during the night while I'm asleep. After using the maintenance routine outlined at http://www.tweakxp.com/article37549.aspx, I think it'd be great if I could use a similar setup to the antispyware and antivirus programs . . . including updating them just before they are executed. Thanks in advance for your responses. Dan _________________________________________________________________ Windows LiveT: E-mail. Chat. Share.
