Hi,
Rose, I wonder if what you did to change and keep the drive letters the
same was in the computer management module that is part of the
administrative tools in XP. I also wanted to comment on two features you
have found in Vista that are actually also availabe in XP Pro. The first
is the ability to set up a sound when the Caps Lock button is pressed.
This and also the same for the Num Lock button can be done in XP Pro
through the accessibility wizard. Also the ability for the the system to
go to sleep mode and then shut down can be set up in XP Pro in the power
options which can be reached through the control panel and some other
ways. I am telling about this in case others using XP Pro want to do
the same. I don't know if they are in XP Home or Media Center. I seem to
remember using them in 98SE and also Me. Great you found them in Vista.
I hope the memory situation with your new system gets straightened out.
Dave

GMan,
Thanks...
I feel so foolish as I evidently did not keep the info...I think I must
have
deleted the email when I was 'cleaning up' getting ready to
reorganize...etc.
In any case, I know..I went 'somewhere' and created a folder with the
drive
letter and name.
I have one such folder in my H: . It is named H:Family Projects. That is
my drive letter and drive name. When I hover over it..it shows it is 591
MB.
When I open it, it appears to have the same info as the drive does. The
same file folders and such....
But, where I did that... and how... I do not remember. And for the life
of
me, I cannot remember who told me about it. I have a vague remembrance of
someone telling me to go to some website. But, I cannot find a link in my
favorites list, which I tend to put in my Tech Info folder in Favorites.
Not a problem though......
I have to take my new puter back to the store. It seems... that my memory
only shows 3 GB instead of 4 GB. I think that is weird as they come in
matched pairs and I have (supposedly 4 - 1 GB ea) .
Also, I think it is me... the DVD/CD ROMs are not working...just like my
old
computer..and it was not connected the net or my network!
I am leaning the Vista Interface. It will take time. I know the store
will
take care of my computer. I went in the store the other day and at least
a
half dozen people stopped to talk to us and apologize over the problems we
had. So, I know they will treat me well..
Poor Jerry feels so badly. He was the big donor to my getting this PC and
now feels I am unhappy...and he is too. I told him it is not his fault.
I have found different descriptions of this model number. On line it said
it was a different brand keyboard and mouse than I got. But the book that
came with the PC that was written in March of 2007 says it is what I
got..a
creative wireless keyboard and mouse. It seems fine..but.. the 6 keys
over
the arrow keys
delete
end
home
page up
page down
and insert
are two across - Home - End
Insert - Page Up
Delete - Page Down
Soooo that will take a bit of getting use to. Also, the Enter Key is
bigger
and the \ and | key are BELOW the enter key instead of above it.
I will adjust.
One thing Vista has I KNOW I will like..is the capability of setting a
sound
up when the Caps Lock Key is turned on. I cannot count how many times I
have
had to retype something because I did not realize the Caps Lock is on.
As I said before, Vista will be a learning curve for me..but I am not that
old yet that I do not think I can handle learning something new. lol!
One thing it does is go into sleep mode and then after a while shuts
itself
off. Now I am very confident that is a setting I have not explored yet.
But, I like it. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to answer
the
door or go into the kitchen or something and got involved and there was my
computer running for 4-6 or more hours..for no good reason. With the
electric rates so high..and the summer and our highest bills of the year
coming, I am concerned.. I do not want to run/pay for extra A/C just
because I forgot to turn my computer off. In the winter time, it is nice
in
the computer room and I do not have to turn the heat up in the house so
much....lol! In the summer we have a window A/C as we have to keep the
door
closed to the computer room. The thermostat for the house is in the
hallway
outside the computer room and the whole house will be freezing just to
bring
the temp down....lol!
Our two computers can throw out some heat....lol!
Later.... will keep you apprised the this computer...and will try to find
the place where I learned how to maintain a drive letter.
Thanks for looking for me.... I will let you know if I find it.
Thanks again,
Rose
