-=PCTechTalk=- Re: MS Works

I'm using version 4.5a, came with my computer when I bought it 3 years ago.
(Also had it on 5 1/4" floppy for years!) Following is a copy of my original
post, altho at that time I didn't know about the 'set-up launcher' thing--I
wonder if we skipped a step in the install process?
Here's my first post from 2/16:
----- Original Message ----- I made a chart to keep track of the Freecell
games I've played and now that I reinstalled WinMe I can't get the chart to
make a shortcut. I thought I'd lost it (freaked me out!) but I can get to it
the long way--whew! But when I try to create a shortcut on the desktop, it
doesn't look like it used to. Instead, it has the "application" icon (the page
with a capital A on the lower rh corner and colored boxes on the upper lh
corner) and when I click on it I get a message "Freecell Chart.wks is not a
valid Win32 application" --please tell me what is going on here. Looking in my
Works Folder, I find that all of my .wks files bear this icon; I double-click
to open a files and get a message that the file can't be changed, that it is
"open by another user or another application, to make changes rename the file"
and when I click ok the files opens! When I check properties, I'm finding that
the .wps files (word processing) say Opens with unknown application, but the
.wks files (spreadsheets and schedules) say Opens with Freecell Chart! Of
course, that is not an application, but how did it get to be designated as one?
Do I need to uninstall Works and reinstall it? Actually, all of these files
came from a CD I made before my reformat and now when I run the CD I see the
same situation, so I guess something happened when I created the CD. As I
said, they didn't have that 'application' icon when I first ever created the
files, so I don't know what my problem is. I just created a ..wps file and the
icon looks like a pencil & paper, but when I look in my files list it has a
different icon--I don't get it! Do you know what can be happening here?

  'set-up launcher.exe' , which it never did before I reinstalled w-Me. I'm
wondering if when my friend installed Works maybe the install wasn't
complete. Should I uninstall and reinstall MS Works? I posted a more
detailed question on 2/16, no response, so maybe no one uses this program...
