Thanks Faustus, I will try the "Create a New User" first as the machine is only a year old, built especially for me by my son. Not that it couldn't still be hardware related. I am a lucky 71 year old. My son provides my computer but lives in Indianapolis, IN, My wife has a Dell but has always had to learn to keep her machines running herself as she is VERY frugal. Hmm...short of updating your gfx card/monitor drivers, I can't think of anything else that would apply. One last quick thing you could try before you reformat is to create a new user, fill their desktop up with icons, and see if the same thing happens, then at least you'll know if it's system-wide or user- specific.
