Lisa,
Her computer would 'wake up' quite a bit if it had more RAM installed.
It looks like it now has only 512MB with some of that going to Video duties.
Since it also has a dedicated video card, it means the video chip on the
mainboard was not turned off (the fault of the person who built the system)
and is wasting resources.
So, to get her machine where it's tolerable (no virtual hair pulling),
the embedded graphics needs to be turned off within the BIOS and the system
needs more RAM (2GB would be ideal if the mainboard can support that much).
If you are at a point where you don't want to go through your usual tech,
any computer shop can do this for her (I recommend one of the smaller 'mom &
pop' type shops for this).
Also, I understand you're not happy with your sister's computer, but
please try to avoid using words like 'sh&tty' here in the future.
