Linux is inherently more secure. Linux runs smaller and faster on less
hardware. Linux is open source and is in *constant* development (so bugs
don't stay bugs for long, unlike windows) and can be configured to do only
what you want and separate the things you don't want.
On the downside, it is more difficult to use and more difficult to install.
That's changing, but it still has a learning curve. Drivers are not
widely available, and, in fact, many hardware vendors won't even write
drivers for it, meaning you have to wait on the geeks to hammer one out for
you. This too is changing. Linux has the potential to unseat Windows, but
whether it will or not remains to be seen. If you were good with DOS and
know your hardware well, try it. If not, you may be better off to wait for
awhile.

Carneal was rumoured to have uttered....
| <Copy>
| What's the advantage of running Linux over Windows? I know
| very little
| about Linux, but gather that the networking options are easier
| to set up in
| it than in Windows. I talked to someone recently who is
| networking 4
| computers in his home. He has Windows on all 4 but is running
| Linux on his
| server.

|
| You can have Windows running on the PCs, but have Linux on the
| server? I
| would like to know more about that, that sounds like it might
| be advantageous.
