I am suspecting that my screen is showing colours, images, applications -
everything! - too dark. To me it looks natural because I am used to it, but
others commenting that they see things different than I do.
Is there something I can do to adjust the brightness to a NORMAL standard? I
know how to adjust it, I just dont know what is the normal brightness
setting, as I thought my current setting was normal but obviously it isnt.
Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glen.....
For years my monitor was i realize now ...too bright...because of a new
graphics card....i tried an APP that is associated with it called 3DEEP . It
is designed to optimize the screen for the best results in 3D gaming , etc.
...it takes you thru a wizard that insructs you to pick out elements and
points on reference charts....when i was all done ...my monitor was WAY
darker than it had ever been.
The only thing i can tell you is that while at first the darker settings
looked wrong...i realized over a little time...that it is better to error on
the side of dark ...than be too light if you want the MOST out of all the
graphical multitude of possibilities. Many wallpapers that were created to
take advantage of a monitors illumination are infinately better when darkened
down.
I have included some of the readme file form the 3DEEP app below
....Regardless of the fact that it speaks of gaming directly ...it benefits
any graphic on your monitor such as wallpaper....Please note that it also
mentions OTHER 3rd party software used to calibrate gamma and color...i
imagine you could do a search for them...as i write this i am uncertain as to
whether 3DEEP is "card specific" or anyone can use it.... ( i think it is
open to anycard )
...i have a free trail version that also includes a thing called TRUE
INTERNET COLOR...which is a thing to get you to pay a subscription on a
yearly basis to monitor and calibrate your "internet color" experience. You
can turn off the nags and ignore the internet color service while gaining the
benefits of the 3DEEP internally

1.0 Introduction
3Deep ensures that your monitor displays 3D games with
accurate lighting and shading exactly the way the creator
intended. 3Deep delivers the precise imagery that the
developer spent months working to achieve.
*******************************************************
Note: To deliver 3D imagery 'as the creator intended' the
game needs to support accurate gamma using specific
Microsoft(r) DirectX or 3Dfx Glide(r) functions. For those
'legacy' games that don't include this function 3Deep's
Default System Gamma (located in the 3Deep control panel)
will adjust your system to a gamma level that is optimal
for most games.

2.0 FOR BEST RESULTS, YOU MUST READ THIS
Let your monitor warm up for at least 30 minutes before
beginning the 3Deep Color Wizard. This process allows the
colors to stabilize.
Run 3Deep at least twice a year for best results.
If you have a third-party monitor calibration system
installed (e.g., EFIcolor, AGFA FotoTune, or another),
use either that system or 3Deep. Do not use both calibration
systems. Using both systems will miscalibrate the monitor.
Search 3Deep Help for instructions for your application.
If your monitor has some type of color adjustment controls,
adjust them to your liking first, before running 3Deep.
If your monitor has a degauss button press it before running
the 3Deep Color Wizard. If you don't have one, then your
monitor has an automatic degauss cycle that works when you
turn your monitor off and then on again, even if there is no
outward indication of it.
Some work environments have more than one type of light. A
single type of light is required to get accurate results,
especially during the last two steps of the 3Deep Color Wizard,
in which you adhere the Color Card or Color Key to the screen.
At these steps, adjust your room lighting as described in the
linked Help topic to get the best results. After completing all
of 3Deep's color choices, you can return to normal room lighting.
* PLEASE NOTE THAT 3DEEP V3 REQUIRES THAT YOU HAVE
ADMINISTRATIVE PRIVILIGES ON WINDOWS NT4 OR 2000
SYSTEMS.
* PLEASE NOTE THAT 3DEEP V3 DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY IN
256 COLOR MODE ON WINDOWS NT4 OR 2000 SYSTEMS. PLEASE
USE A HIGHER COLOR DEPTH (16BIT OR HIGHER).
******************************************************
3.0 Disabling the 3Deep logo at system start up.
Open the 3Deep Control Panel.
Open the About Screen (Click on the 3Deep logo in the Control Panel)
Click on the 'Disable logo during start up' button.
