Sue,
I'm not surprised. Tech support centers are trained to run through a
set list of 'fixes' when any specific problem is reported. Once they've run
through them all, if it's still not fixed, they are told to direct you to
the other company. They are told to stick to the scripted answers they have
in their company supplied book and are not allowed to research the issues
themselves. This is exactly the reason why most of the folks who chip in
here could never accept a job doing that kind of work. We're just too
concerned with fixing the issue rather than getting you off the phone.
:o(
In any case, I'm glad to hear it's working for now.
Ok, go ahead and install Firefox (if you haven't already). The
automatic option is fine (as opposed to Custom). If you're asked at the end
whether you'd like to start Firefox, tell it Yes. When it opens, it may ask
if you'd like to make Firefox your default browser. Uncheck the box that
says something like "Always ask ..." and then politely click on No. Now
that it's open, you'll get the chance to look around and see how the menu
system is set up (File, Edit, View, etc.). Then, look through the Options
(Tools > Options) and see if there's anything you might want to question.
I'll await your reply before delving any deeper into this incredibly
customizable adventure you're about to begin. ;O)
Peace,
G
