-=PCTechTalk=- Re: I have an idea/Open Office

I will try Open Office, because it is free... not because I cannot afford $5,
but because I live in Brazil and only very occasionally buy mail order in the
US. I don´t like my credit card details floating about :o)) And by the time I
pay all the currency conversions and taxes, etc. it will have cost me more than
double! I have MS Word 2003 on my computer, but am looking for something
lighter for my notebook.

Yes, they are MS Word/Excel, etc. compatible (almost all Wordprocessors,
etc.) have to be these days.

I still prefer Wordperfect (see Wordperfect X3 at www.softwareoutlet.com for
$5.00 on sale), but I'd rather have Open Office than M$ Office...

Larry, I deal with Microsoft Word files at the charity I work for. Do they
work with Open Office? In other words, can I import Word files into Open
  Office and edit them???

What if we were to start a list which is modifiable, but one list
nevertheless, which lists really good, *free* programs (and maybe nearly
free programs) (e.g., no adware, no spyware, no limitations on downloading
and installing) which could be installed on a hypothetical computer to sell
customers (as one member described it). It would actually only be for our
own use, but it could become an extremely valuable resources, especially for
new members. As new versions and new programs come out, the links could be
  updated.

  E.g.,

  FREE SOFTWARE LIST VERSON 1.0

  Office Suite:

  OpenOffice 3.0

  www.openoffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org/>

Other users could add other entries under the same title "Office Suite" if
  is meets the criteria

Or correct a bad URL. An addition might make it "Version 1.01" until
someone adds or corrects something else.

  Just my two cents..

  Excelsior!!!!
