I take it GParted will allow me to partition my 250 GB hard
drive into smaller partitions? I hope so because I love free
programs.

You want to install Vista alongside an XP installation,
on the same drive.
Tutorial Summary:
We're going to use GParted to shrink the Windows XP partition on
the hard=
disk and create enough space for an installation of Vista.
We'll then=
install Vista and use the EasyBCD utility to tell Vista's
bootloader to=
refer to XP by its name.
This tutorial was carried out on a Windows-XP based system
running on a=
200GB hard drive which started with the XP partition taking up
the entire=
drive.
