Responses are intermingled amongst the queries (sounds rather poetic). This is how learned gurus are created, my friend. > 1. No I don't have any Utility for managing desktops, but > > 2. I have clicked on each of the other Desktops (Administarator, All > Users, > Default User, then next in the C:\Docs and settings comes Local Service, > thenNetwork Service and finally RMB White) and all these other Desktops > open > as a BLANK.....so we make progress ! Each of these 'user' folders is normal. It's also normal for some of them to have their own Desktop subfolder. The Administrator is an actual user account automatically put there by Windows to give you a way to access Admin privileges if ever the need should arise. The All Users account is used to hold all programs that are available to ALL of the users on a system. The Default User is a template for the system to Copy when any additional users are added. And the RMB White account is the one you use on a daily basis. Each of these four will have their own Desktop folder, but it's highly likely that you will find things only within the All Users and RMB While versions (assuming you've never accessed the Administrator account). > 4. However Administrator contains NO programs except a couple under > Startup This is normal. The only apps shown in there will be the ones that were initially installed along with Windows, unless you have since booted into that account and installed something more recently. > 5. All users contains NO programmes except the COMPLETE DECK of Programmes > under Startup It is likely missing one or three items from what you see within your own RMB White Start Menu. Everything you see within the All Users area is available to ALL of the users of your system (in your case, that means the Administrator and RMB White accounts). > 6. All the major contents of the computer are under R.M.B.White (except > that under IT'S Startup there is only Acronis, Administrative Tools, > Cooliris,EnditAll, Irfanview and Winderstat) Again, this is all expected based on how windows is designed to work. > This means incredibly long pathways, e.g. "C:\Docs and Settings\R.M.B. > White\Desktop\My Documents\MY DOCUMENTS\Mozart in Salzburg". Shouldn't it > just go "C:\Desktop\My Documents\......... ?? and if so, HOW do I reset > everything without falling flat on my face?? It sounds like you, at some point, eother created a My Documents folder on your Desktop, or you Moved the original one there. On a separate occasion, you also either create a My Documents sub-folder inside of that one or you Moved or Copied an older backup of the My Documents folder inside the main one. Either way, this is not a big deal, but should still be cleaned up to avoid further confusion. There are several methods I employ for this activity, so I will cover it in a separate thread for clarity. > Please help. > > Roger W > ps all this may have something to do with my continuing inability to make > thetouchpad work; and other gremlins. I believe the touchpad issue is related to the drivers in use. Again, let's use a separate thread for that. I'm still not sure what to do about the gremlins, however. --------------------------------------------------------------- Please remember to trim your replies (including this sentence and everything below it) and adjust the subject line as necessary.
