-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Help me please

Yvonne,
I commend you for going through all of the troubleshooting you've
already done. In most cases, that would have been far more than enough to
locate and repair whatever damage is causing the problem. Unfortunately, it
hasn't made things any better in this case.

Since the purpose of this is solely to test the modem, my first line of
advice would be to ask around and see if anyone has a spare modem you could
borrow (you might be surprised to learn just how many folks fall into this
category lol) so you can test the "bad modem" theory. If there isn't one
to be borrowed, you could get a super cheap one at a local computer store
(the larger stores normally have the better sales). Even a WinModem
(software based) will do for this kind of test. However, if it comes down
to buying one of your own, you might want to think about buying a good one
since, if it works, you don't want to be stuck with a cheapie.

I (along with the other techs here) know how exactly how frustrating
this troubleshooting stuff can be. Just try to keep in mind that you're not
just banging your head against the wall and getting nowhere.
Troubleshooting is the only means of systematically eliminating possible
faults that are preventing your computer from working right. You've already
eliminated most of the possible breaks in the system and should be extremely
close to the resolution. :O)

Peace,
G Man

Hi,
I am so frustrated with my ISP and computer at the moment, I have to get on
Netzero to receive my mail, and on Bellsouth to send it. If
I try to get a letter in from Bellsouth, it cuts me off, and I can't seem to
configure Netzero to send.

I have been on the phone for at least 3 hours with my ISP and can't get it
straightened out. They are telling me that it is the modem. But it's funny
to me that I can get on with one or the other with this modem.

I have done a system backup qic restore, re-installed Windows, re-installed
IE explorer, re-installed the driver for the modem, I am at my wits end with
this. I would change servers but don't know if it really is my modem, and
besides I would have to move all my web pages. I have done everything except
a re-format, and I'm not sure that would take care of the problem or if
after all that work, it really is the modem....

I am running Windows 98SE and have Internet Explorer 5.5 and OE 5.5. I have
a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop, with 700mhz, 256mb ram, and 16gb hard drive. I
hope I am explaining it right.

I don't know what to do. sniff sniff
Any ideas?
Yvonne
