-=PCTechTalk=- Re: HP4530us Display model

MJH-
I take it this is the ze4530us, not the HP4530, which is much older and
could have come with Win95? See if there is a setting in the BIOS that
enables/disables the touchpad; see if a USB mouse will work. It may be
that the touchpad is damaged and will need to be repaired under
warranty. That's the chance you take with display models.

Try going into Device Manager (right click My Computer and click Manage,
then click on Device Manager) and see if there is a problem with the touchpad.

Since I have actually seen people try to damage display models, I never buy
anything that's been displayed unless I can get it for a 50% or greater
discount.

It may be that you'll need to take it back and get a working one to send
overseas.

Tom

ps- Just a bit of unsolicited advice: NEVER buy a computer (or anything
electronic) in a hurry. If they're going to fail, it will usually be in the
first 2 or 3 days or within the first 30 days. If the device is still
working beyond that, it will usually last its expected lifetime, barring
accident or willful destruction.
