Sounds like all that spyware is hogging your system resources.  If you have
HP, you probably have backweb.  Xupiter is bad and you need to google to
find the removal tool.  Us Adaware (free) and Spybot (also free) about once
a week to clean up the rest.  You *can* recover the system, but you'll
likely lose one or two of the nifty free programs that you picked up
accidentally or on purpose.

          |  In the last couple of weeks, I have somehow gotten 2 more bars

          |  of them.  I can right click on an open area of the bar and it
