-=PCTechTalk=- Re: HELP with USB device

It's on my laptop, and if it wasn't working at all, then rebooting
wouldn't make it work. So, that port does work. I can plug in the USB drive,
reboot, and I always see it then. Even at work, I have to reboot the pc when
I plug it into the back USB port and then I can see it. Is there something
else I need to do so that I don't have to reboot to get it to recognize the
drive being plugged in??? Also, I can plug it into any of the USB ports on
the desktop I built, and I always see a dialog box popup and it is the USB
drive. Sounds like it's a setting or something like that to stop it from
opening up on my laptop. Sometimes when I plug it into the desktop at work,
it will open up the dialog box too, but this never occurs on my laptop. Any
suggestions????

Rick

As Mike said, you do not need to boot.
If you still do not see it, check another USB port, to make sure it is not
the port. Or, plug in something you KNOW is working on another port.
Further... are you using a USB hub? Or, straight into the back or front of
the computer?

Keep in mind, too, that if the USB connections are in the front of your
tower, depending where you got the computer from, sometimes these system
builders do not connect the front USB ports (whether they forget or are just
lousy builders). Are you connecting to the front of the tower or back?

Also... another thing... your motherboard BIOS might have it disabled.
