    What was the exact search you used?  It should have been '*.cab' 
(without the quotes).

    Also, if you're using the standard MS search pane, you probably have a 
little animated dog trying to get in the wa, I mean, help you with the 
search.  Look for a link called "Search options" and then click on "Advanced 
Options".  In there, check next to the top three items (System, Hidden & 
Subfolders).  That should be enough to allow Search to look in all the right 
places for those files.
