You can test a "clone" by actually booting to it... by either a boot menu 
option or by physically relocating the clone drive to the boot drive 
position.

The only way to test an "image" is to use the image to restore to a hard 
drive (say a spare off the closet shelf) and test it the same way you would 
test a clone.
