-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Fw: jpg vs jpe

Hi Mikey,
JPG, JPEG & JPE are all the same thing. JPEG is the full acronym while
JPG is used to conform to the 8.3 style of naming files under DOS (8
characters, a period and then a 3 character extension). JPE is just JPEG
with the last letter truncated, which occurs occasionally when DOS is
somehow involved in the transfer. Personally, I just rename them with the
regular old JPG extension and move on.

However, you can always create a new extension and associate it with the
same program that normally opens up your JPG and JPEG files. Find a JPE
file and click on it once to highlight it. While holding down the Shift
key, right click on it and choose Open With. NOTE: The Shift key isn't
necessary if it doesn't already have an association. I've included it to
show folks how to change an association they don't want. It'll also come in
handy if Photoshop has taken over all 3 of these filetypes and you wish to
change that.

When the Open With dialog box opens, scroll down and click on to the
program you want to use (ACDSee, ThumbsPlus, MSPaint, IExplorer, etc.), make
sure the "Always use this program for this type of file" box is checked and
click on OK. The file will open up in that program from that point on.

Peace,
G Man

I have some pic files with a jpe extension and though I can personally see
them when I try to send them thru outlook express they don't seem to come
thru
does anyone know what ext jpe means and if they can be converted easily to
jpg extensions??
