-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Firefox, java,binary files???

I had a kind of scary experience with uninstalling Java in the add/remove
programs. When I clicked remove, Win Patrol popped up and said IE wanted to
install an extension (or something). That did not make any sense so I
denied it. Then my screen lost all of it's icons, start, notification area,
etc. I was at a loss for a moment and then remember Control,Alt,Delete
which brought up a way to close or restart my computer. I held my breath
and restarted not knowing what might come up or worse what might not come
up. But this brought everything back so I proceeded to look for any Java.
None found in Firefox plugins and non in add/remove programs so I mosied on
over to Java.com and proceeded to download what I hoped was the latest
version. Nothing went quite like the instructions said they would but I
stumbled along anyway. It again came up with "this is a binary file" (I am
going to have to do my research and find out what the heck a binary file is.
It seems to be only in Firefox). So I downloaded it to my documents download
stuff and then found it to install. When I double clicked on it, it began
to install the installer. When that was completed it went to install JavaFX
and wanted to install a yahoo tool bar which I rejected. I rebooted and---
Bottom line--I have Java reinstalled. It appears once in add/remove
programs and again it appears twice in plug-ins in Foxfire, tools, add ons,
plugins. The top one says
 Java (TM)Platform SE6U11
       Java (TM)Platform SE binary
The second one says
Java (TM) Platform SE6U11
Java plugin 1.60-11 for Netscape Navigator
     (DLL Helper)

And I don't get where the Net.Navigator comes in. I have Internet Explorer
not Navigator.
