-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Firefox, java,binary files???

Sandi,
I only initiated a download because I thought that's where you were
getting that message. When I download files, I never use the Open option.
I always "Save file to disk" (to an external drive) to give me the option of
saving it for later installation (or re-installation in case I need to
reformat/reinstall Windows). It also allows my AV and other security apps
to take a quick look at it to make sure there's no surprises. Anything set
to 'auto-protect' will scan a file that's downloaded to the drive before you
ever get the chance to open it. I really don't want to install any
screensavers, though. I tend to avoid them at all costs. lol

As for the Java stuff, the location I used for that one check was within
the Java options found in Control Panel. Open up the Java applet and look
in what I think is the fourth tab, click on the options button at the bottom
and you'll be there. It currently shows only the latest version where it
used to show two of them.

So, try downloading the files to your drive before installing them and
see if that helps. Also, uninstall Java completely and download/install a
fresh copy of the latest version and see if that clears things up. Let me
know your results and we'll go from there.

Happy Holidays,
Gman
