HaHa :| But you are so right LOL You have seen what my tinkering can do over
the years :p lol Well dual boot is out of the question for the time being ..
right now we have 2 pretty equal systems lined up ready to use .. Mine }XP
and one Her Mom gave her } Win2000; so we will be using Both at some point
..Just have network issues right now that we need to work out LoL With that
said; There is no Documents and Settings in Win98 hence why I asked if I can
just copy the junk over lol So just install the older version we have been
using here on her account in xp then copy the folder over and all and when
weget it hooked up (hopefully this weekend) it will be all good ??
Gman wrote: It's a valid concern and she is to be praised for her
thoughtfulness. Little does she realize yet that you're probably more likely
to blow up the system than she is. ;^) If you REALLY want to keep thing
separate, consider setting up a dual-boot using the same OS for both
installs. You'd need to have the first OS on a Primary/Active partition
(which it already is), but limit the space to what it needs plus future
growing room. Since I have all of my non-OS stuff on other drives, I only
need about a 20GB partition for WinXP or 25GB for Vista. If I were to set it
up FOR you, I'd likely go with 30 &35GB. If using 64-bit versions, add
another 10GB to each. You could then set up additional partitions for
holdinga second OS (same sizes as above) as well as keeping your downloads,
documents, etc. separate from the OS partitions. Done right, it allows you
the freedom to no longer worry about something blowing up one of the OSs. If
one does have an issue, boot into the other, make a complete copy of the
offending one, wipe it (format the entire partition if the bad OS is on the
Ddrive, but manually delete the folders if it's on the C drive to preserve
the boot files). Complete time to recover from a blown OS is now down to
about an hour, plus the time it takes to reinstall your favorite apps.
Details and hand holding are available if you want to consider this idea for
your situation. And now to the answer to the question you actually asked.
lolFirefox follows my advice above in that it puts its operating files in
oneplace (Program Files), but stores all user settings, bookmarks,
passwords, browser themes, tab sessions, extensions, etc. to a separate
location (Documents &Settings) to make it incredibly easy to back up and
recover in case of a problem. Since she'll have her own section of the
systemto play in (either as a separate username or in a second OS on the D
drive), all you need to do is to Copy her entire Profile folder over to your
machine (in the right place - see below) and then install Firefox. Firefox
will automatically look to see if there's an existing Profile and use it if
found. Be sure to initially install the same version of Firefox (2.x OR 3.x)
that she was using on her system since Firefox 3.x makes changes to some of
the 2.x files and would be confused if it was asked to use an unconverted
Firefox 2.x Profile. Ask me to explain further if you're not sure what I'm
talking about here. To get her profile off of her system, you'll first have
to find &identify it. The location of Firefox Profiles is: C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application
Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\a1b2c3d4.default,where "a1b2c3d4" is a string
of random numbers &letters. You'll need to Copy the entire Mozilla master
folder in order to get all of the necessary files to make this work. In
otherwords, just make a copy of the C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla folder and everything that's in
it. Copy that to the same place in her new Docs &Settings area BEFORE you
install Firefox. All of her custom settings, extensions, themes, etc. will
beright there for her when the browser is run. Peace, Gman "The only dumb
questions are the ones we fail to ask" ----- Original Message ----- From:
