Chris, I followed your instructions to locate the event viewer. Got as far
as "Application" but did not see any "Winlogon" item. Lots of stuff found
by double clicking on Application. It found lots of errors and most were
from automatic update. Seems to have fixed those as information said
"success". I do have something trying to run on my computer called "Windows
Installer" and that showed up with a warning in the event viewer. Clicked
on the url for additional information and got the message. "No additional
information available!
This is "the other" strange thing my computer is doing that I spoke of in a
previous post. I am running Windows XP Pro with 80 gig hard drive and 512
Meg of Memory. Computer is custom built.
Does anyone have any idea on how I can get this "windows installer" to bug
off? It pops up at start up and also at other undetermined times. I have
to hit cancel repeatedly to get it to go away. I have run Norton Virus scan
and nothing shows up. Have rid myself of a number of items in AdAware and
Spybot. And have run all kinds of diagnostics in Norton System Works.
Running Chkdsk seemed to produce best results of at least identifying it but
it is not fixed.
Joyce
