-=PCTechTalk=- Re: EIII 1394A firewire card

Ok, Bob. Most of your questions I can't answer without the case off the
puter. I don't have a modem card installed -- I have ADSL. The moniter plugs
into the top of the back, above the horizontal slots. When I take off the
case I'll see where the connections inside lead to. I'm going to print out
the paragraph about what lines up with up and have another go at it. You
wrote "Maybe hubby, boyfriend, son can help you here." Made me laugh. Hubby
is scared of the computer when the case is on, hate to think what he'd say
if I told him to help me with this! Anyway, it's not that I can't press hard
enough, I was just scared to. Thanks for bucking up my confidence, I'll let
you know what happens in a few days.

Sharon

| I think you would have cards for the modem and video (monitor) at least. I

| That sounds like it is a plug and play type of card. If you did not get
| drivers (a cd or floppy) then the card has them preinstalled on it or XP
| will supply them. Who makes this card and what is the model number?

| Beautiful osbervation. I normally lay the puter down on its side and push
| the cards in. Better leverage that way.
| Unless everything is built in to the puter. Insert it which ever way is
| easier for you to get it installed.

| If I understand what you wrote, on the 2 port version, you can only use
one
| port 2 or 3 but not both. Jumpers are little plastic rectangles with 2
holes
| in it and the holes are lined with metal. They fit over two posts on the
| card/MB/HD/whatever. They simple pull off and push on. Depending on what
| posts they go over, they let the device do different things. Again, the
| manual should explain that. Does the manufacture have a help line/desk?

| spunds like plug and play. You probably didn't get any drivers on a cd or
| floppy and the card will look to XP to supply what it needs.

| Open your case and make sure that the metal tab end of the metal that the
| card is attached to, goes into a slot (not the pci slot) is in that slot
| properly. (its the other end that does not take the screw) Make sure the
| card is located in the PCI slot and every pin is in the slot. check to
make
| sure the metal peice is aligned with the opening in the case properly. The
| card will have a tight fit and maybe a litle extra push is all it takes.
| Again, I do not know how hard your pushing so that is a call your going to
| have to make. Try pushing on the front, then the middle, then the rear.
| Maybe hubby, boyfriend, son can help you here.
