i've laboured over this, but it makes no odds; it must be the 
copy of xp that Bill sells to the limeys !
thanks again Glo, i've got sillysot going a treat now, when i 
want to see my desktop icons i just move my pointer into a 
background area to bring up all 52 icons there.
i've got to do something about that, they're packed like 
sardines !
