-=PCTechTalk=- Re: " Dell, or Compaq ? "

my son has a compaq. He lost the hard drive - they sent him a new one almost
immediately. It died within a week. He sent his laptop back. Had it back within
a week - with a new hard drive and new ram. They said the ram was bad, causing
the hard drive to get killed. Works great now. He's thrilled. Was tough to get
an english speaking person on one of his phone calls, but that was his only
problem.
I have a Dell - it's my 2nd. so far, my old desktop needed a power supply -
they sent someone out with it to fix it. took longer to have someone come, but
they did! I had them send me the floppy drive that died. figured I could buy
one, but why when they would replace it. At that time, I had to run a
diagnostic page they sent to me.
knock on wood - so far my laptop has been fine.

But I got a better deal on my dell than shopping around for a compaq. All you
need to do is google 'dell coupons' and that will possibly knock off a big
chunk of the price. My laptop started out around 1200.00 and I got it down to
800 something with coupons. Percentage of entire computer, then percentage off
of updates on ram and hard drives. Coupons are always changing and out there.

You are correct... Dell Customer Service is pretty darn good. I have had to
use it on every computer I ever bought from them... at least twice. three
or four times on a couple of them.

I'd rather get a good computer so I wouldn't need to worry about the
customer service.
