programs on TV. Is there anyone in the Group that knows anything about
them , like how many hours can I record on one CD. ?? I have 110 VRC
tapes. I want to cut down on the storage space. Is it worth while buying a
DVD Recorder or should I keep the Video Recorder. Thanks for any info.
Lionel .

OK, first off, think about what you want to do with this...

is it MAINLY for...

a) For day to day recording, in other words, like a VCR?

or

b) For backing up/keeping archive recordings on?

If it's a), then instead of a DVD recorder, consider a hard disc recorder.
These are excellent-quality is superb and it makes recording so easy.

If it's b), then you have to decide whether you want to go down the route of
a PC based one or a stand alone. Each have their benefits, but you will
currently pay A LOT less for a PC based DVD writer..Here in the UK, a major
chain are selling very good ones (X4 speed write, in either + or - format)
for under £90. Of course you then have the problem of getting the material
into your PC to record onto DVD recordables, which may make going for a
standalone a more appealing option.

Personally, at this moment in time, if I was going for either/or, I'd go for
the hard disc recorder-stand alone DVD recorders will come down a lot in the
next 1-2 years., but if your are going for one now, try and get one that
writes to 'normal' DVD recordables, not the DVD-RAM discs, these are VERY
expensive, and in all likelihood will soon become obsolete.

Cheers

Andy

ps- Either way keep the VCR!!
