Percy.........
I have a Panasonic DMR-E30 - now superceded. Yes, excellent for
recording TV. Time-slip means that you can start watching a program
that started recording and has not finished yet. Also can zap through
adverts at high speed as there are two methods of advancing - a choice
of 4 fastforward speeds where the pic jumps forward or (back) and
secondly jumps forward in steps of 1,2 3 etc minutes at a time, or in
multiples of 10minute jumps. Discs hold 4.7gig, and there are double
sided that store 9.4g. There are several options for recording speeds.
At the max, the picture is a tiny bit 'fuzzy' or jerky in high activity
filming such as football. Discs are like CD's, or for a little extra you
can buy them in cassettes which I regard as best. Don't think the
cassettes will fit all DVD machines.
There is another machine that has a 40gig HDD built in also. Worth
looking at, but out of my price range. They are all getting cheaper, though.
A point of warning - There is a battle going on similar to the VHS and
Beta business that occurred in the beginning with video tape. Mainly
between DVD-RAM and DVD+Ram. Another thing is that you don't overwrite
these discs - although re-writable ones (there are writeable and
re-writeables ) the RW's have to be erased physically before they get
full. Operating is a steep learning curb\ve, and I have not mastered
mine in 6 or so months, not that I try very hard now. LOL
Look around, Percy, and take your time. That's my recommendation. Good
hunting. Any specific questions feel free to ask.
