But with the D-Mark are you limited to only one location for your DSL modem. I
move mine to another room with phone jacks when I use the laptop. We have only
two jacks for the line with the DSL and 4 jacks for the one without the DSL.
Of course the DSL does not work on that line and we have no filters on it. (I
do not want a wireless network) Also does the phone company charge? Verizon,
over the years I have had DSL form them has provided me free 4 different modems
and about 7 filters free each time. One of the modems was just like the
original, but maybe had improvements in the hardware. The other two were
different and "upgrades".

I wonder if Rose's friend is also getting a Power line home network. He might
need boxes to plug into various outlets so he can access the DSL from the Power
line network. Don't understand why he would need filters for appliances
though. I'm considering a Power line Network here so I don't have to move my
DSL modem when I want access the DSL with the laptop in another room.

Whoa...there are several different filters used. One is a filter for
the phone outlet itself. Another is a filter that's put on the
connection for the phone to the house. This connection is called the
"D-Mark". If you want the absolute best performance for a DSL line,
run a separate CAT-5 line from the D-Mark directly to the modem for
your computer. Have the phone company put a filter on the other
connections for the phone lines at the D-Mark. The reason this is
done is that every single phone line/appliance connected on the same
line as the DSL connection will degrade the speed for your DSL
connection...........so you separate all phones from the line to your
modem.
