This really eases my mind, this is my situation exactly, dropping the 2nd
phone line and it's actually $10 cheaper than DSL! But what about Dave's
warning about others being able to see your computer? The cable company has
a firewall and I plan to install ZA, altho they did say it w/b redundant.
I'm a little nervous, but very anxious to get it as I'm so sick of all the
time spent WAITING--my typical connection is 26,400bps--very slow.--Glo

No. Satellite Internet required a dialup to use the service (at one time),
but AFAIK, cable doesn't and never did. We were able to drop our second
phone line after getting cable internet so the cost came out about the same
as dialup for more than ten times the speed. It has proven more reliable
as well, with one short outage compared to at least 15-20 on dialup in a
one year period.
I've been VERY happy with my cable access and would recommend it to anyone
who currently uses two phone lines because of internet use. Those who
don't, aside from the cost, I still recommend the service for the speed and
reliability.
On 4/23/2003 at 7:02 AM a whisper was heard, and the one known as Tricia
was rumoured to have uttered....
