-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Connecting 3rd HD

Judith,

I use Partition Magic from Symantec. There are other products out there,
but I have been using is for years. Actually, I bought it from Data Quest
before Symantec bought them out.
It works fine. Data Quest had GREAT tech support that actually talked to
you... at no charge.....

I am sure others on this list can recommend other products and there may be
free ones out there.

Big hint... when you use the program (this was true of Partition
Magic..anyway) Shut off your antivirus software. Also, shut off Go Back if
you have it running.

Yes, you will lose what Go Back is saving for you. It will start clean when
you re-start it. There is some conflict with Go Back and Partition Magic.
I ran into problems a few years ago and was told this by the Tech at Data
Quest. As soon as I shut it down, the problem did not reoccur. So, do not
run Partition Magic with Go Back running.

I am still using version 8. It works just fine. I have the previous 2-3
version of it. All were quite satisfactory to me. It works with XP just
fine.

7. You can partition the new external hard drive so your
backups are on one
or more drive letters and your other 'stuff'' can be on other
drive letters.
It is no different than the ones inside your computer.

Have fun Glenn and thanks for all you do!

Speaking of partitioning -- do you do this with a software
program?

I'm afraid when this list was talking about it -- went over my
head. But now that I have an external drive I would like to
partition it. Would make life a lot easier when I back up (drag
and drop) only some data files each night.
