-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Connecting 3rd HD

My personal recommendation, is to buy an EXTERNAL hard drive. They are not
that much more expensive these days.

There are a couple of benefits of having an external drive.

1. If your machine dies/ burns up..you still have your external drive
2. You are not adding heat to the inside of your computer case. (A strong
argument AGAINST putting a 3rd drive in the case)
3. You can get a large drive and backup the things from your internal
drives. (See Number one)
4. You can take your external drive to someone else's house and share data
with them (both ways)
5. You can shut of the drive and only turn it on when you need to use it.
You save electricity that way, you are not wearing out the drive and it will
probably last longer that way.
6. WHEN you get a new computer, you just plug it into the firewire (my
preference) or USB connection on the new computer and voila! You are in
business.
7. You can partition the new external hard drive so your backups are on one
or more drive letters and your other 'stuff'' can be on other drive letters.
It is no different than the ones inside your computer.

Think about it. The price of external hard drives has dropped considerably!

Have fun Glenn and thanks for all you do!

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Connecting 3rd HD

Hey,

I need to get another HD for my PC. I already have two harddrives and the
connectors on the HD flat cable are used up. But there are available
connectors on the DVDRW cable. They look the same as the HD connectors. Can
I use them without interfering with the DVDRW unit? Can a HD be connected to
the DVDRW cable?

thanks,
glenn
