GMan !
Thanks for another detailed and helpful reply
1. am happy to be "Accomplice" and escape from dumbleness
2. Re Acronis Boot CD pse see my reply to Mike.
3. Followed yr excellent instructions, and this is what I got
> [boot loader]
> timeout=30
> default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
> [operating systems]
> multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP

> multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
> Professional (#1)" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
This looks slightly different to the example you gave so will await yr
commands to avoid corrupt.
4. Quick Launch and Task Tray already unlocked> tried locking and
unlocking again> still no response from dragging double-headed cursor
5. Sri for inclarity, I MEANT to ask whether (when doing a vanilla
Backup[ ie NOT a Clone] in Acronis) I needed to Check>"Show Hidden
Files" +"Display the contents of System Folders">Uncheck>"Display simple
folder view in Explorers Folder list" + "Hide extensions for unknown
file types" + "Hide protected Operating System Files (Recommended)"
