This may not be what you want, but how about getting a new mouse, and thus a
new (as in 'different') driver? Mice are cheap, unless you want one that
glows in the dark and does your dishes :-)
Perhaps you can even borrow a friend's mouse, install it's driver and remove
the old one, and see if that helps.
