Note: As far as I know radio shack does NOT sell an amplifier suitable for
cable modem use.
Motorola does sell a bi-directional cable modem/cable-tv amplifier which I have
not tried yet.
F.Y.I. This address (192.168.100.1) is a web page generated by your modem not
motorola's or anybody elses website.
You indicated they said there was a high noise level on your line, and the
reading before was 37db, but after the 'repair' it is 38db, a 1 db improvement,
this is not substantial, heck that could be normal deviation from reading to
reading.
The power level change from 58dbm down to 45dbm is a substantial improvement,
what this means is your modem doesn't have to 'yell' at them, it can talk in a
normal level instead. Note: In most cases the modem talks to the cable
companies hardware using a
frequency just below channel 2, some splitters not meant for cable modem back
channel use, some splitters don't handle the 'down' channel frequency range
either, in most cases the down channel is going to be on a very high frequency,
probably higher than
all their TV channels. The internal modem stat's page (IP above) will indicate
the down channel frequency used on your system.
