Hi Jan,
What threw me in the first account was the idea that the registry had a
corrupted file. While the registry is composed of several files that reside
on your hard drive, there are no 'files' within it, only tons & tons of
data. So, I am now going to go on the assumption that he's either talking
about one of the files that help store registry data or an actual file
somewhere else on your hard drive that's being referenced by an entry within
the registry. Either way, the next step I 'd like you to take is the same.

Specifically, I'd like you to run a full surface CHKDSK on your hard
drive. If the underlying problem is a corupted file or folder, this should
clear it up and allow the re-installation of the driver. To set it up,
right click on the drive in question and select Properties from the context
menu. Go to the Tools tab and click on the Check Now button. A second
window will come up and you should place check marks in both boxes. When
you next click OK, you'll get a warning that the scan cannot proceed because
some files are currently in use. It will offer to set the scan to run on
the next reboot, so click Yes to agree to that. Next, reboot and allow the
scan to run. Since this includes a surface scan, the procedure may take a
while to complete. The amount of time varies according to the size of the
drive or partition you're having scanned. A surface scan of a 100GB
partition could take a couple of hours, so be prepared to knock some things
off of your To Do list while it's running. ;)

When it's done, it will finish rebooting into Windows and you can try
installing that driver again. Let me know how it turns out.

Peace,
Gman
