Check your security settings.  Look for things such as allow images, show 
pictures, enable ActiveX and similar.  Also, look at scripts and DirectX, 
Flash and other browser add-ins and manipulators.

Do you have a custom HOSTS file?  If so, that will likely block a massive 
amount of ads, images and the like.
