I do have to say that I typed a little too fast on that explanation. 
BitDefender is an anti-malware scanner, not an AV app.  That's why it 
doesn't have a problem with already installed AV products.  However, the 
online engine DOES also identify viruses, trojans and worms like an AV.  I 
should have been more specific about this earlier.
