Trying doing your major backup and then follow with incremental backups for up to a month. Incrementals only backup whats changed since previous backup. If you have a disaster and have to restore, then you first restore your major backup and then each of the incrementals. Each incremental backup is quick and you probably could put a number on each CDRW.
